Hand drawing continued

My try
My paper is a 50 lb. weight.
I have been advised to use
250 lb. weight paper
which is rougher and holds charcoal better
The charcoal I used is a blunt type of material.
I think I need more of a pencil style
for more detail

Of course, for charcoal, a more rough type of paper is necessary. There's one cheap alternative - I think it's called Manila. It comes in several colours. For practice, it is great.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip. My costs as I draw continue to rise. a small price to pay I hope.
This is awesome. I really hate using charcoal to be honest because I can never create anything with it. I just get smudge prints everywhere. You did a fantastic job and it is a nice piece of work!!!

ReplyDeleteit is a challenge to use charcoal. I find myself propping up my hand to keep it off the paper. But id it does smudge, I guess it is part of the process.
You've captured the detail in the hand beautifully Ray!
